Where Koos van der Beek started
It was May 1939 when 18-year-old Koos van der Beek started and converted the garage at the back of his parents’ garden into a warehouse. A warehouse that would later grow into one of the oldest and friendliest hairdressing wholesalers in the Netherlands.
Koos van der Beek wanted to move beyond the limitations of Lightspeed and find a more flexible, scalable solution. Shopify offered an ecosystem of apps and integrations without a lock-in to one platform.
- 01A Lightspeed store with limits on flexibility and scalability
- 02A migration scope of more than 100,000 items
- 03A need to keep control of the Shopify setup in-house
- 04A first self-served migration using the Syncer onboarding dashboard
The approach: self-served with Syncer
Koosvanderbeek.nl wanted to leave the limitations of Lightspeed behind and was looking for a more flexible and scalable solution. Shopify offers the freedom to work with an extensive ecosystem of apps and integrations, without being locked into one platform. As the very first client, Koosvanderbeek.nl chose a self-served migration using the Syncer onboarding dashboard. The data migration of no less than 134,321 items was carried out by Syncer, after which Koosvanderbeek.nl took on the full setup and optimisation of the new Shopify store themselves.
A future-proof foundation
Thanks to this combination: a safe and full data migration by Syncer and the self-driven setup via our onboarding dashboard: Koosvanderbeek.nl was able to go live very quickly with a future-proof store. That proves entrepreneurs can take charge of their own migration process when given the right tools and guidance.
More than 86 years ago Koos van der Beek started supplying his customers with everything they need.
How the migration ran
Syncer moved the data. Koos van der Beek ran the new store setup.
Discovery
The starting point was a Lightspeed store that no longer offered the desired flexibility and scalability. The target was a Shopify store with room for apps and integrations.
Data migration
Syncer carried out the full migration of 134,321 items. The data migration formed the safe foundation for the self-served setup.
SEO migration
The public case does not provide separate SEO results or a redirect count. The case therefore makes no additional SEO claim.
Storebuild
Koos van der Beek took on the full setup and optimisation of the new Shopify store itself, using the Syncer onboarding dashboard.
Go live
The combination of a complete data migration and a self-driven setup created the foundation for the new store. The case records the go live on 11 July 2025.
