Partywinkel is a leading Dutch online retailer for party supplies, costumes and decorations. For a seasonal business like Partywinkel, downtime during peak season is the worst-case scenario imaginable. Syncer solved that challenge with LiveSync®.

About Partywinkel

Partywinkel serves consumers and businesses looking for everything they need for a successful party: from themed decorations and costumes to balloons, garlands and party essentials. Revenue is heavily concentrated in the fourth quarter (Halloween, Sinterklaas, Christmas, New Year's Eve), which makes the timing of a platform migration extremely critical.

The challenge

Partywinkel wanted to move to Shopify for more flexibility and better marketing tools, but timing was a major obstacle:

  • Seasonal peak sales — in October, November and December Partywinkel runs at full capacity; any interruption directly costs revenue
  • Limited migration window — the only safe period for a go-live was January–August
  • Large product catalogue — thousands of party items with seasonal collections that are continuously updated
  • SEO protection — Partywinkel had built strong organic positions on seasonal keywords (e.g. "Sinterklaas costumes", "Halloween outfits")

Our approach

Syncer recommended scheduling the migration in Q1, with a go-live deadline in early spring. That left plenty of room for optimisation and any issues could be solved before the new party season began.

  • Migration window January–April — we kicked off the migration scan in January and planned go-live for April
  • LiveSync® — until go-live the old platform remained fully operational, while Shopify was kept in real-time sync with all product changes, new collections and stock updates
  • SEO Guard™ — all URL redirects were validated, with special focus on the seasonal category pages that drive recurring traffic each year
  • Shopify setup — a custom theme with improved search, category filters by party type and audience, and optimised product pages

The result

  • 35% faster page load — the new Shopify store loads significantly faster than the old platform
  • Improved mobile conversion — the new theme is mobile-first; mobile conversion rose right after go-live
  • All SEO rankings preserved — including the high-value seasonal keywords
  • Go-live on schedule — well ahead of party season
