Dutch Garden is a specialised online garden store with a broad range of garden plants, tools, furniture and decoration. Migrating to Shopify was a race against the calendar: the new store had to be live before garden season started.
About Dutch Garden
Dutch Garden caters to garden enthusiasts looking for quality products for their outdoor space. The range includes living plants (with unique requirements for product descriptions), garden furniture in multiple finishes, tools by brand and type, and seasonal decoration.
Like Partywinkel, Dutch Garden has a strong seasonal pattern: spring (March–June) is by far the busiest period. A migration that overlapped with peak season would have been disastrous for revenue.
The challenge
- Complex product attributes — plants have unique attributes (species, max height, position, hardiness, flowering period) that needed correct mapping
- Seasonal timing — go-live had to happen before garden season started so we wouldn't miss revenue
- Custom data mapping — existing product attributes didn't fit Shopify's standard data model
- Category structure — a deep category tree (e.g. Plants > Perennials > Butterfly plants > by colour) had to be converted to Shopify collections
Our approach
- Syncer AI Engine™ — we built a custom mapping for all plant attributes to Shopify metafields, so customers could filter on every relevant property
- Timeline prioritisation — we worked to an accelerated migration plan to hit the deadline; go-live was scheduled for late February, well before peak
- LiveSync® — the old platform stayed live and synced until go-live; new products for garden season were forwarded automatically to Shopify
- SEO Guard™ — all URL redirects and metadata were carefully mapped
The result
- Launched before garden season — go-live in February, well ahead of peak
- No ranking loss — all organic positions preserved
- Richer product pages — plant information is now structured and filterable through metafields
- Improved user experience — customers can now filter by plant type, position and season
