Customer Story: Boozyshop
Boozyshop is one of the largest online drinks specialists in the Netherlands, with an extensive range of wines, spirits, beer and mixers. Migrating their legacy platform to Shopify was one of the most challenging — and most successful — projects in Syncer's portfolio.
About Boozyshop
Boozyshop serves both consumers and business customers in the Netherlands and Belgium. The catalogue spans thousands of products, from affordable everyday wines to exclusive whiskies and limited editions. The store processes hundreds of orders daily and has a large repeat-customer base.
Before the migration, Boozyshop ran on a platform that was starting to limit the company's growth ambitions. The frontend was inflexible, app integrations were costly, and store performance — especially on mobile — was insufficient. The choice for Shopify was easy; the challenge was the complex migration itself.
The challenge
The Boozyshop migration came with several serious challenges:
-
Large product catalogue — thousands of SKUs with rich product information, variants (volume, packaging) and product imagery
-
Complex category structure — multiple levels of categories (drink type, country, grape, style) that had to be translated into Shopify collections
-
SEO risk — Boozyshop had spent years building organic rankings for hundreds of keywords; ranking loss was not an option
-
Customer data — a large customer database with order history that had to be preserved completely
-
Continuity — the store had to remain reachable for orders throughout the migration
Our approach
Syncer's team started with an in-depth migration scan that analysed the full data structure of the source platform. Based on that, we drafted a Blueprint with a detailed plan for data transformation, SEO protection and go-live strategy.
-
LiveSync® — we activated our real-time sync layer, so Shopify was kept up to date daily with the latest product data, stock and prices. Boozyshop's store stayed fully operational throughout the entire migration window.
-
SEO Guard™ — we mapped the complete URL structure of the existing store, analysed Google Search Console data and automatically generated 301 redirects for every product page, category page and CMS page. Over 5,000 redirects were validated before go-live.
-
Syncer AI Engine™ — the category structure was automatically translated into Shopify collections with dynamic collection rules. Product attributes (country of origin, grape, ABV) were stored as Shopify metafields.
-
Shopify setup — we configured Shopify Plus with a custom theme, Klarna payment integration, PostNL shipping connector and all the required marketing apps.
The result
-
0% SEO loss — all organic rankings preserved after go-live
-
Complete data migration — all customer data, order history and product data successfully transferred
-
Zero downtime — the store was never unreachable for a moment
-
Live in 8 weeks — from migration scan to go-live in two months
-
Faster mobile performance — page load 40% faster on mobile after migration
Customer reaction
"Syncer ran our store migration exactly the way we'd hoped: without downtime, without SEO loss and on time. The LiveSync technology meant we could keep processing orders right up to the final day. A must-have partner for any serious online store that's planning to migrate."
