Is this the moment to rethink your store strategy?

Acendy. The name sounds like a cross between a Scandinavian energy drink and an AI startup from 2018. But in reality it's the successor to Mijnwebwinkel. Yes — the very Dutch platform on which thousands of entrepreneurs took their first online steps is changing course. Together with Norway's Mystore, they're now launching an 'international e-commerce platform'.

Sounds impressive. But between the lines, you mainly read: "We're going to do something new. And oh yes — your current store? It has to move."

Min Demo

Mijnwebwinkel — for years the trusted platform for thousands of Dutch entrepreneurs — has begun a major transformation. Together with Norway's Mystore they are launching Acendy: a new international e-commerce platform that will take over from Mijnwebwinkel in the coming years.

The message is clear: Mijnwebwinkel stays available for a while, but the future lies with Acendy. New customers now start there automatically. For existing users a migration tool is promised — only in 2026.

So this is the moment to take a critical look: is Acendy the right step forward, or is this exactly the right time to leapfrog straight to a mature platform like Shopify?

🤷 Disappointing usability, despite good intentions

It's clear that Acendy has been inspired by Shopify. The structure, features and interface in some ways resemble what we know from the world's largest e-commerce platform. But where Shopify stands for intuitive navigation and streamlined workflows, Acendy in practice often feels sluggish and convoluted.

What can be done in Shopify with one click takes several steps in Acendy — and sometimes results in frustration. Basic things like bulk editing, creating variants or adjusting an image or product page are less logically arranged and lack the finesse you need as a serious e-commerce entrepreneur.

In short: progress or step back?

On top of that, something striking: Acendy is fundamentally more expensive than Shopify. So you pay more for less flexibility, fewer apps and a Norwegian platform that's still being built. Especially for entrepreneurs who care about speed, overview and scalability, this feels like a step back instead of forward.

For example, you start a store and it gets named 'Min Shopp'. A few translations forgotten, you'd say.

From simplicity to confusion: how you suddenly become a front-end developer without wanting to

What many entrepreneurs love about Mijnwebwinkel.nl is its simplicity. Click, drag, live. You immediately get where to go and what to do. No noise, no jargon.

And then you open Acendy. (How do you even pronounce it?)

Instead of intuitive building, you're suddenly surrounded by terms like OPTION_SHOW_ATTRIBUTE_LIST, custom classes, global color linking and other technical fuzziness that even the average developer has to blink at three times. You just want to update your product title, and you suddenly find yourself clicking inside a JSON file that sounds like you accidentally opened a piece of the back end.

For many retailers this is the moment they tap out. Because let's be honest: you're an entrepreneur, not a programmer. And you want to sell — not endlessly tinker in a complicated theme without overview. Shopify shows how it should be done: clear, logical and built for entrepreneurs. Not for developers with a dictionary in their left hand.

What does the arrival of Acendy mean?

Acendy promises a lot of improvements over Mijnwebwinkel: bulk actions, tiered discounts, sale of digital products and user roles. Good news in itself, but it also means:

  • New workflows

  • New subscription models

  • And in time: a forced switch

Although the intent is good, it raises questions: do you want to migrate your store in two phases? First to Acendy, and then perhaps still to a platform that's truly scalable?

Why moving directly to Shopify is a sensible choice

1. Avoid double migrations

Migrating your store properly once is already an investment — let alone twice. By switching to Shopify now you skip Acendy and choose a future-proof solution.

2. More options, more flexibility

Shopify supports multiple markets, languages, currencies, apps, fulfilment partners and marketing tools. Acendy — particularly right now — lags well behind on that front.

3. Built for growth

Whether you sell locally or want to scale internationally, Shopify offers the tools to grow with your business without having to switch platforms again and again.

4. Community & support

Shopify has millions of users worldwide, a large partner community and 24/7 support. So you're never on your own.

5. The cost picture

A migration is normally expensive, but Syncer.nl is disrupting this market by offering a SaaS model — so you get a complete Shopify store including migration, Dutch support and all the know-how of a real Shopify Plus agency to grow your store!
